Ongoing Initiatives
Stud Breeding is a dynamic industry with different options and the following highlight some of the initiatives we are involved with at Rosedale to lift sheep production.
Crossbreeding
Rosedale was selected as one of the 4 farmer partners in the WoolPro/AgResearch joint venture initiative in the Growbulk dual purpose sheep breed. Based on proven domestic breeds, with a strong Romney base, the Growbulk offers a crossbreeding option capable of lifting production in all productive traits. East Freisan genetics were also use for two years at Rosedale and a summation of their performaance available. |visit Crossbreeding |Lincoln University Immunology Trials
Aware of the correlation between faster lamb growth rates and superior muscling characteristics, and a similiar correlation between faster lamb growth and worm resistance, a trial is currently underway to assess the linkage between worm resistance, superior muscling and lamb growth rates. Involving Immunologist Dr Mirek Stankovich and four members within the SORG, the trial is jointly funded by FITT,Lincoln University and Alliance Freezing Co.South Suffolk Growth Trials
Rosedale has been involved in the past two years as independant participants in the South Suffolk Breeders Group Trial.Anyone who is serious about increasing their current production will recognise the importance of accurate information on which to base decisions. With our on-farm research we can identify best options for future use at Rosedale and in the commercial farming sector. We have a responsibility as breeders to supply only Rams which are capable of lifting a clients production. Every ram we sell has the ability to do this.
